Excited Roddensvale pupils meet David Healy
Excited pupils and parents at Roddensvale School in Larne got to meet footballer David Healy on Tuesday (23 June) when he called in to congratulate pupils on taking part in Sport Northern Ireland’s Activ8 programme. David was visiting the school in his role as Northern Ireland Ambassador for the 2012 Olympics.
During his visit David met the class involved in Activ8, demonstrated his sporting skills, chatted with pupils and parents and signed autographs.

Activ8 is a new initiative from Sport Northern Ireland promoting 8 steps for children to get active and stay healthy and has been awarded the London 2012 Inspire Mark.

Speaking about his visit to Roddensvale, David said:
“It was great to meet the pupils at Roddensvale School today who participated in Activ8. Activ8 is encouraging young people to develop their skills and interest in physical activity. As Northern Ireland Ambassador for the 2012 Olympics I am delighted to see initiatives like Activ8 being rolled out which are utilising the Olympic and Paralympic Games to promote the importance of leading a healthy and active lifestyle.”
Principal of Roddensvale, John Madden spoke on Activ8 and the children’s delight at meeting David Healy: “David is one of the players that pupils can really relate to because he is so well known in Northern Ireland. We were so delighted that Sport Northern Ireland were able to facilitate his attendance in recognition of those pupils who had worked so hard as part of the Sport Northern Ireland’s Activ8 programme. He was wonderful with the children, their parents and staff. The time and patience he showed to sign autographs and have photographs taken was much appreciated and will live long in the memory of our school community”. |
