Sport NI recognises value of Mountain and Cave Rescue Teams
The Northern Ireland Mountain and Cave Rescue Coordinating Committee (NIMCRCC) celebrated the Long Service Achievements of Mountain Rescue personnel at their Annual General Meeting in Belfast recently.

Sport Northern Ireland through the NIMCRCC facilitates the coordinating of all the civilian teams with the statutory emergency services involved in mountain and cave rescue in Northern Ireland. Chairman of Sport Northern Ireland, Professor Eric Saunders OBE was therefore delighted to be asked to distribute long service awards to member of the rescue teams. He commented:
“I congratulate the teams for their dedication and courage in carrying out their work. It is important to recognise the hard work and dedication of every member of each organisation. They give up their time voluntarily saving lives 24 hours a day, seven days a week and are an asset to the community.”

The Northern Ireland Mountain Cave and Rescue Coordinating Committee brings together the joint expertise of all those involved in mountain, cave and cliff rescue. These teams include;
The PSNI Mountain Rescue Team,
The Mourne Mountain Rescue Team,
The North West Mountain Rescue Team and,
The Irish Cave Rescue Organisation
The teams also have a close working relationship with the other emergency agencies such as Maritime and Coastguard Agency, Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, Search and Rescue Dog Association and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.

For the PSNI Mountain Rescue Team there were two recipients of awards, one received a 20 Year Long Service Award and the other team member received a 25 Year Long Service Award.

The Mourne Team award recipients included Ian McCracken for 5 years service, Alan Black and Paul Conway both of whom have 10 years service and Kenny McElnea and Mark Neill both received awards marking 20 years of distinguished service to the team. Ann Fitzsimmons also received an award on behalf of her late husband Bob, a member of the Mourne Team who had 20 years service.
