The Finlandia Trophy 8-11 October 2009, has proved to be a great competition in Jenna McCorkell’s first outing of the new season finishing 5th place overall in a world-class field of 18.
The top 10 European competitor and 6 times British Senior Champion from Coleraine was in a class field of World and European champions, and her new programmes saw a rejuvenated and inspired performance from the 22 year old. World ranked 6th place Fumie Suguri from Japan, current European Champion Laura Lepisto and Kiri Korpi both Finland as well as bronze medallist in the European’s 2009 Susanna Pokyio as well as a host of 17 other top competitors from Europe and the USA.

Jenna beat Suguri and Pokyio in the free to move up an incredible 4 places overall in the competition. Yuri Bureiko Jenna’s coach commented: "It was like a Grand Prix, the standard was very high and it was a bigger field this year than any other year that I can remember, of course it is the Olympic year. I am delighted with this great start to the new season for Jenna, both programmes can only improve now, she was unlucky in the short with her combination, but her long programme was outstanding and to come up four places overall in that sort of a field is great."
Jenna will return home to Belgium but not for long as she will travel to Nice in France for the Coupe de Nice at the beginning of November and then it’s onto Canada for her first senior Grand Prix of the season at the end of November just prior to The British Championships.
