LISBURN CITY HALF MARATHON

CELEBRATES 25 YEARS IN THE ‘RUNNING’

The 2007 Lisburn Half Marathon, 10K Road Race and Fun Run will celebrate a commendable 25 years in the ‘running’ this year when the event takes place on Wednesday 20th June. One of Northern Ireland’s largest sporting participation events, the event is organised by Lisburn City Council and is sponsored by Coca-Cola Bottlers (Ulster) Ltd.

Year on year the event attracts in excess of 6,000 participants, and with a wide choice of runs and walks available, there is something to suit everyone from the serious runner to the casual walker.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary, a number of special attractions will be in place on the night of the event, making it an ideal family occasion promoting health related physical activity in a relaxed fun atmosphere.

Coca-Cola Bottlers (Ulster) Ltd’s, Public Relations Manager Maire Campbell, is delighted to support the event:  “We are proud to, once again, have our name associated with Lisburn’s Half Marathon event. It brings together, fun runners, young and experienced athletes, which will contribute to the future of athletics, for Lisburn City and beyond. Good luck to everyone who is taking part, and we hope that immense funds are raised for the Mayor’s Charity, the Lisburn Branch of The Parkinson’s Disease Society. ”

Alderman Cecil Calvert, Chairman of Lisburn City Council’s Leisure Services Committee has thanked the event sponsors for their valued support and encouraged new applicants to come forward and make a difference. Every effort made is a worthy contribution to charity.

UTV’s sport presenter, Adrian Logan, helped to launch the event at Lisburn’s Lagan Valley LeisurePlex in March and said: “The City of Lisburn Half Marathon is a fantastic event and always succeeds in attracting the crowds, both to take part and to cheer on the runners. It’s not all about winning; it’s about participation, having fun and achieving personal goals. I would urge those who are thinking about taking part to go ahead, register, get training and enjoy the experience.”

Entry forms for the Half Marathon, 10K Road Race and Fun Run are available to download online at: www.lisburncity.gov.uk  and are also available from leisure facilities, sports shops, the Sports Council for Northern Ireland, libraries and other outlets displaying the Lisburn Half Marathon poster.
