Killen Football Club representatives joined Strabane District Council and Sport Northern Ireland to celebrate the redevelopment of their football pitch.
The redevelopment, which included pitch draining and the installation of floodlights, was funded by Sport Northern Ireland and the club, with a Sports Lottery Grant of £175, 885 being secured.
A contribution of £10,000 was also made by Strabane District Council through the Sports Capital Grant Aid Programme.
Speaking at the launch of the facility, Councillor Thomas Kerrigan, vice- chairman of Strabane District Council’s aid, "I a m delighted to see this superb facility which I know will bring many hours of sporting opportunity to the local community.
Killen Football Club is an excellent example of how partnership working can bring success and enhance the opportunities for young people to progress to higher standards of performance.”
These remarks were endorsed also by council's chief executive, Philip Faithfull, "As a member of Sport Northern Ireland Places Committee I am dedicated to developing people in sport, especially our youth. The role of Sport Northern Ireland in providing facilities at a local level is critical to future sporting excellence.”
