International Wheelchair Tennis Tournament 14-16 September

11 September 2012

This annual Belfast City Council Evian International Wheelchair Tennis Tournament, now in its fifteenth year of existence, has become one of the most popular competitions on the wheelchair tennis circuit.

The event hosted by the local ‘Spokes In Motion’ Wheelchair Tennis Club in association with Belfast City Council and Tennis Ireland, again held at The Belfast Indoor Tennis Arena, 14 - 16 September, has attracted top players from England, Scotland, and Ireland all hoping to get their share of the silverware.

The event organisers are delighted with the high standard of the players coming to do battle for the silverware and are expecting to see top level wheelchair tennis matches and some three set thrillers.

Our local hopefuls in the main draw are Belfast man Gerry Milligan, Doagh player Stafford Lynn and Glenavy`s Ivor Jess; all who will find themselves in a very competitive main draw.

From the impressive line up of competitors attending our home tournament this year, organisers are expecting a very high standard of wheelchair tennis, with some hard fought three set thrillers. The high level of competition will also prove valuable experience for our local players.

The ’Spokes In Motion’ Club along with Tennis Ireland also continue to use the event to promote and develop this fast and exciting sport within Northern Ireland.

The tournament committee is delighted and extremely grateful to Belfast City Council for once again supporting the event, and also to JBE Building Services, Evian, and the Freewheelers organisation, for without their valued support it would not be possible to host this now established and well presented event.
