North West Mountain Rescue Base Officially Opened

The Vice-Chair of Fermanagh District Council Cllr. Harold Andrews has officially opened the Fermanagh Rescue Base of the North West MRT at Florencecourt.

The base is shared with the Irish Cave Rescue Organisation who has a Rescue Store on the site. Fermanagh District Council purchased the buildings from the NI Water Service and made it available for the Rescue Services. Cllr Andrews said that the Council were please to support the voluntary efforts and life saving service provided by the NWMRT.

Representatives from the PSNI, Fire Service, neighbouring Mountain Rescue Teams and friends and family of the Team were addressed by Murray Cowan from Sport Northern Ireland who has provided funding for the refurbishment of the building. He stated that Sport Northern Ireland was always willing to support the Rescue Services who come to the assistance of people engaged in various outdoor activities.

The Rescue Base was officially named as ‘Hamilton House’ in honour of Uel Hamilton the Team President, founder member with 32 years continuous and active service. His wife Ann was also honoured in acknowledgment of the support she has given the Team over the years.
