Olympic Art Competition Winners Rewarded

04 July 2011

Activ8 Eatwell competition winners have received their prizes, alongside the sports day packs for every participating school.

Following the judging of the Activ8 Eatwell Olympic art competition with Jonathan Edwards, it became clear that Northern Ireland doesn’t just produce talented sportspeople, but talented artists as well. The calibre of entries was very high, making the judges’ job of choosing winners a difficult one. Eventually however a winner from each year group from Primary 1 to Primary 7 was selected (there were joint P7 winners), as well as one from a special school. Alongside their completed Activ8 Eatwell diary, P1-2 pupils were asked to submit their design for an Olympic medal, while P3-7 pupils came up with their own original Olympic poster. Each winner was rewarded with a fabulous £50 sports voucher for themselves as well as a £100 sports voucher for their school, along with a framed memento of their entry.

The Activ8 Eatwell initiative, run by Sport Northern Ireland along with the Food Standards Agency, promotes eight steps for children to get active and eat well to stay healthy. The 2011 campaign started in January and has provided schools with an incentive to actively encourage continued participation in physical activity and healthy eating. All pupils who participated received Activ8 Eatwell Diaries to keep a note of their activities and certificates to recognise their achievement.

Coming towards the end of the campaign, pupils and teachers of the participating schools were all equally delighted to receive their Activ8 sports day packs, bursting with a wide range of sports equipment. The delivery of these packs will aid the schools to complete the final part of the campaign, a fun-filled and exciting school sports day for all.

It is hoped that Activ8 Eatwell will encourage all participants to keep themselves fit and healthy while having fun at the same time, as well as ensuring that the children are motivated and inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
