SO, YOU WANT TO BE A RUGBY COMMENTATOR?
Vodafone Northern Ireland is offering young wannabe rugby commentators a chance of fulfilling their dreams by launching a search for the Vodafone Young Radio Rugby Commentator.
Run by Vodafone Northern Ireland in association with Ulster Rugby, BBC Sport Northern Ireland and the Sports Council for Northern Ireland, the competition is open to anyone aged 16 to 25 years on 1 March 2007 - and there are great prizes on offer!
The winner will get the opportunity to spend a day with BBC Sport Northern Ireland and work at a rugby outside broadcast, and will also receive a high-specification mobile phone with £100-worth of Pay As You Talk vouchers from Vodafone; along with other prizes. The runners up will also receive an array of great prizes.
To be in with a chance of winning all you have to do is record a commentary – maximum length 2 minutes - at any rugby match and enter it in the competition.
Recordings can be made on a mobile phone and can be text to:
07855 781831 or emailed to kay@duffyrafferty.com
Recordings on cassette can also be entered and should be sent to:
The Vodafone Young Radio Rugby Commentator, c/o Duffy Rafferty Communications, 2 Pilot’s View, Heron Road, Belfast BT3 9LE.
All entries must be accompanied by your name, address, date of birth and DAYTIME telephone number.
The closing date for receipt of entries is Friday March 23rd 2007.
The panel of judges will select five entrants to compete in the final of the competition. The finalists will be asked to record a five-minute commentary at a designated Ulster Rugby match at Ravenhill. The overall winner will be the one who, in the opinion of the judges, delivers the best commentary.
Pauline Quigley, Head of Vodafone Northern Ireland, said: “Vodafone is very proud of its official partnership with Ulster Rugby and is delighted to be offering young people this chance to follow in the footsteps of broadcasters like the BBC’s Jim Neilly. We hope that many would-be rugby commentators avail themselves of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
Simon Wallace, Commercial Manager of Ulster Rugby, said: “Over the years of our partnership with Vodafone, they have found innovative ways of communicating with our fans. This competition should prove to be another highly successful project and one that Ulster Rugby is delighted to be associated with.”
Shane Glynn, Executive Producer, BBC Sport Northern Ireland said: “There have been some great voices in rugby commentary over the years and this is a great opportunity for a budding Jim Neilly to make their mark.”
Richard McCormick of the Sports Council for Northern Ireland said, “The Sports Council is delighted to be involved in this prestigious project and we would encourage as many budding young commentators as possible out there to submit their entries as soon as possible.”
