Who are the target groups?

This will ultimately be dependent on individual programme requirements. Sport Northern Ireland target groups are:

  • Ethnic minorities
  • Women and girls
  • Older people
  • People with disabilities

However it is up to the applicant to show in their application how they are targeting underrepresented groups within their specific sport. We assess each application on merit based on the answers provided within the application.

Who can apply?

All organisations must be based in Northern Ireland and the beneficiaries of the project must be from Northern Ireland. This will be dependent on individual programme requirements for example a programme may be targeted at some or all of the following groups:

Is my sport recognised?

Is there a certain amount of money allocated per sport?

No, all applications are treated equally regardless of sport.

Can my club get funding for new equipment?

Our Small Grants Programme will consider funding the costs of new additional equipment so more people can take part, but cannot replace any old or broken equipment. Please note equipment should not be the sole focus any funding application but a means to help increase participation.

Can I get funding to take a coaching course?

Sport Northern Ireland does not fund individuals directly but if you are involved with a club, consider applying to our Small Grants fund to qualify additional coaches.
