Karla Quinn Wins Her First Gold Medal

19 year old Karla Quinn from Rasharkin, the current British Junior Ladies Champion, has just competed in her first Senior ISU event of the new season, The Coupe de Printemps in Luxembourg. Last year the Sport Northern Ireland funded skater came a great fourth place overall signalling a return to form, however, this year she was in second place going into the long programme.

Her coach of 13 years Margaret O’Neill who coaches Karla in The International Skating Academy in Sheffield commented: “Karla had a good short but her free programme was exceptional, she just seems to be getting better at each outing and her confidence is growing with each skate.  To win her first senior ISU event for the season is fantastic and I am very proud of what Karla has achieved already this year, we look forward to more international success.”

AKR Promotions Karin Rowlands, Karla’s PR commented: “This time last year Karla was just recovering from her surgery it is remarkable that 12 months later she participates in this competition and wins it!  She beat stiff opposition, some of the competitors from France, Netherlands, Italy and GB. Karla has made her mark now internationally and at senior level and has worked very hard to achieve this – it is brilliant for Northern Ireland sport.”

The teenager has been making her mark throughout last season with what has gone down as the comeback of the year by winning the British Junior title and now moves up to senior ladies this season; you can catch up on all of Karla’s news on her new interactive website:  www.karlaquinn.com
