Over 50 people recently attended a ‘Disability Sports Hub’ taster session held in Brownlow Community Hub – with adults and children all enjoying trying out the wide range of brand new equipment on offer.
This project was launched recently across all council areas by Disability Sport NI and funded by Department for Communities via Sport Northern Ireland. This event was organised by Armagh City Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council with participants attending from across the borough.
The new equipment on offer includes twelve sports wheelchairs, one rugby wheelchair, three track chairs, five hand cycles, four tandem bikes, three trikes, three boccia sets and one sensory activity pack.
This session was arranged to give people with a disability the opportunity to try out the new equipment and learn how they can use it on a regular basis to help increase their activity levels. A lot of the equipment is for outdoor use, giving you the perfect excuse to get out and get active in the fresh air!
The trikes, tandems and hand cycles are available to hire from Craigavon Water Sports Centre for a charge of £3 per session, during normal opening hours, for use in Craigavon City Park only. Family or friends can also hire standard bikes (£8 adult and £6 under 17).
To book these bikes or for further information, please contact Craigavon Golf and Ski on 028 3832 6606 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
The Sports Development team will also be organising a range of programmes and events using the new equipment. If you are interested in wheelchair basketball, Boccia, cycling programmes or any other disability sport please call Colleen or Ryan in Council’s Sports Development Team on 028 3831 1690.
