Kelly Gallagher was greeted by a rapturous reception when she arrived back to Belfast City Airport on Friday evening.

The Winter Paralympic Gold Medalist enjoyed a full heroes welcome and was greeted by Dame Mary Peters, Sports Minister Carál Ní Chuilín and Sport Northern Ireland CEO Antoinette McKeown as well as numerous family and friends.

Kelly made history earlier this month when alongside her guide Charlotte Evans she claimed Paralympics GB first ever Winter Paralympics Gold Medal in the Super-G Slalom at the Sochi Paralympic Games.

Kelly was quick to share the adulation when she thanked her wider support network;

“I wouldn’t have been able to do this without the help of my family and friends who are all here and also Sport Northern Ireland and the Sports Institute Northern Ireland.”

“I am just so delighted that I get to bring a gold medal back to Northern Ireland to share with everyone.”

Kelly is supported by Sport Northern Ireland and she also works closely with Sports Institute of Northern Ireland (SINI) where she has received support for the last five years. Kelly bases herself at SINI for part of the year and works with various SINI practitioners including Strength and Conditioning, Sports Medicine, Physiology and the Planning unit. When Kelly is competing or at training events SINI physiotherapists and Performance Skills coach will often travel with her to support her.
