Tollymore National Outdoor Centre acting Manager, Mike McClure, will be travelling to the 2017 Euro’meet at La Seu D’Urgell in the Catalonian Pyrennes on two wheels, as he departs on his bike for this important event on Tuesday 5th September.
Mike has encouraged all delegates travelling to the 4th Nature and Sports Euro’meet to do so as sustainably as possible, and is leading by example by travelling to the conference on his bike.
Other than a couple of boat trips, Mike will make the 1200km journey on the French off road cycle route ‘The Velodysee’, covering 120km a day over 20 days; and is looking forward to the once in a lifetime experience.
Euro’meet runs from 26th-29th September and coincides with the 2017 European Week of Sport.
The Nature and Outdoor Sport Euro’meet is a major conference held every 2 years by the European Network of Outdoor Sports (ENOS. Led by the French Ministry of Sport) which explores the current issues relevant to those who promote, develop and practise outdoor sports throughout Europe.
Mike says: “In my role within Sport NI, I work to encourage people to enjoy being active in our outdoor spaces. It’s important that we do so in a way that is why responsible and sustainable, and that’s why I have invited my fellow Euro’meet colleagues to factor this in to their travel plans for this year’s event. What better way to practice this myself than to travel to the Catalonian Pyrenees than on my faithful bicycle. I can’t wait to get started, and will be promoting Northern Ireland and outdoor sport throughout my journey.”
Mike was a key player in bringing the 2015 Euro’meet conference to Newcastle, Co Down; welcoming delegates from Europe to Northern Ireland to showcase the wealth of outdoor activities and pursuits available across the province.
He is looking forward to continuing to promote Northern Ireland as a premier destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts at the 2017 event.
