Antoinette McKeown, CEO of Sport NI, stated: “Sport NI is standing with the sporting community this weekend by joining the social media boycott against online abuse of athletes from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Communities. The extent and level of abuse experienced by athletes due solely to the colour of their skin is reprehensible and there is no room for this in our game.

Sport NI is driven by a commitment to ensure that the benefits of sport can be experienced by everyone in society. Sport should take place in a warm, inclusive, nurturing environment, where diversity is celebrated and valued and participants flourish. Sport NI’s Corporate Plan is committed to mainstream equality, diversity and inclusion throughout the sporting system to enrich our sporting system, and society as a whole. We are doing this through the establishment of our Celebrating Diversity Panel, the Race and Racial Inequality research among many other areas of work.
