Sport Northern Ireland today confirmed the appointment of a new Chief Executive, Ms Antoinette McKeown, who will take up her new post in the near future.

Antoinette is currently Chief Executive of the Consumer Council where she has led many high profile consumer rights campaigns. She has previously held posts as Chief Executive of PlayBoard, Northern Ireland’s lead play agency and as Head of Policy and Development with the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland. Antoinette has a strong track record of addressing poverty and disadvantage in local communities and has been involved in grassroots sport for many years.

Speaking about the appointment, Sport Northern Ireland Chair Mr Brian Henning said: “On behalf of the Board of Sport Northern Ireland I am delighted to welcome Antoinette as Chief Executive. She has excellent experience and a sound track record in successfully leading customer facing organisations. Antoinette emerged successful from a rigorous recruitment process and she impressed the panel with her experience, professionalism and enthusiasm for delivering the benefits of sport to our wider community. I look forward to an exciting period of growth for sport in Northern Ireland and have no doubt Antoinette will lead Sport Northern Ireland’s excellent teams, to deliver significant benefits to all sections of our community, whilst ensuring our high performance sport programme is given appropriate priority.”
