The Chinese Men’s Gymnastics Team have arrived to take part in a pre-games training camp at Salto National Gymnastics Centre in Lisburn.
The team were welcomed at George Best Belfast City Airport by the Sports Minister, Carál NÍ Chuilín.
The Minister said: “It is a huge privilege to welcome the Chinese Men’s Gymnastics Team – the Women’s Team will arrive in a few days. There is a lot of excitement around their visit for pre-games training. I hope their training here helps them to achieve many Olympic medals at the games at the end of the month.
“As I have witnessed at the training camps for the Paralympic Ireland Team and the boxers from Cuba, Canada and Puerto Rico, having such talented and highly respected athletes in our midst is a once in a life-time opportunity and one that will not be forgotten in a hurry.
“Their presence here is a true inspiration to our many up and coming athletes and will hopefully help achieve future sporting success for local sportsmen and women.”
Dominic Walsh, Chair of Sport Northern Ireland echoed these sentiments saying: “We are delighted that the world renowned Chinese Men’s and Women’s gymnastics teams have chosen here as a training base before the Games and I would like to offer them all a very warm welcome. Having such high calibre athletes training for the Olympics right on our doorstep is a great boost, particularly to our young aspiring athletes. On behalf of Sport Northern Ireland, I wish all of the athletes the best of luck for the 2012 Games.”
