Stadia Safety Programme Phase I - Down GAA
Project Funding - £800,000
Following completion of the project, the venue currently has a capacity of 20,100 of which 3,800 (19%) is seated. The works have ensured that the venue completely addresses the previous safety deficiencies. The work completed includes:
- An additional 2700 seats on the South stand with a cantilevered roof along with male, female and disabled toilets in the undercroft.
- A new Crowd Control Room to be located in a new building to be erected at the back of the East terrace, with CCTV provision and radio links to stewards. There will also be a PA system for communicating with the spectators.
- Installation of CCTV Cameras to provide all round visibility of the ground from various locations and from the crowd control point. (Actual CCTV cameras will be hired as required by the event).
- 14 new computerised turnstiles to be installed at entrance to south stand (6) and at entrance to west (canal) stand (tarmac all hard surface areas at entrances/exits and lateral gangways).
- New safety and information signage to all exit routes and toilet facilities
- New fencing on south boundary of the venue.
- South Stand to have access lift for disabled and viewing platform for seven disabled persons and their carers.
- Two bays of seating in South Stand to be designated as a family area for women and young children. Family tickets to be available (for two adults and two young persons).
