Dear Applicant,

Re:      Stadia Safety Programme, Phase IV

Sport Northern Ireland (SNI) is now opening Phase IV of the Stadia Safety Programme and wishes to invite applications from owners of major soccer, rugby and GAA grounds.

The Stadia Safety Programme aims to assist the ‘owners’ of major soccer, rugby and GAA grounds, on a strategic basis, to ensure the safety and comfort of spectators attending fixtures played at their venues. The programme will financially assist organisations carry out priority safety works at their venue.

AT RISK

Applicants should note that at this stage SNI does not have a confirmed budget for the programme and is launching the programme “at risk” i.e. that applicants may incur abortive costs in the event of funding not becoming available, although applicants should not incur costs at Stage 1. SNI is in negotiations with the Department for Culture, Arts and Leisure (DCAL) for a confirmed budget, however until a budget is confirmed applicants are invited to progress through the application process “at risk”. This process will ensure applicants are at an advanced stage and therefore better positioned to utilise funding if and when it is confirmed.

In the first instance eligibility for the programme will be based on:

  1. Designation – the applicant’s venue must be covered by certification and/or regulation under the Safety at Sports Grounds NI Order.

  1. Governing Body’s Facility Strategy – the applicant’s venue will be identified as being of a high priority in their Governing Body’s Facility Strategy.
