Stadia Safety Programme Phase I - Tyrone GAA

Project Funding - £800,000

The Sport Northern Ireland funded works will ensure that the venue completely addresses previous safety deficiencies. The work undertaken included the following:

  • A new Crowd Control Room located in a new building erected at the back of the West Terrace. Also provision for press, TV and CCTV on multi level floors;
  • 24 new electronic turnstiles placed at the two entrances in place of existing dated turnstiles, linked to the Crowd Control Centre. For large attendances, stand tickets will be presold for each seat, so that unsold tickets can be purchased at the turnstiles;
  • CCTV cameras were installed to provide all round visibility of grounds from Crowd Control Room.  Also PA system, turnstile monitor, scoreboard and message board were installed;
  • Red/white safety fencing erected around three terraces to match existing fence to front and line up with gangways;
  • New toilets for males, females and disabled built in the undercroft of stand;
  • Hardcore areas resurfaced with tarmac at main and rear entrances;
  • The rear entrance will be closed to traffic by bollards and the ticket sales building fitted out for purpose;
  • A first aid room was provided in the undercroft of the stand;
  • A room for the stewards and gate staff was provided in the undercroft of the stand, so that they can change into their jackets and receive briefings on their duties;
  • An exterior lift was constructed at the side of the stand to provide access to the top and back of the stand.  A new area for 16 disabled spectators in wheelchairs, plus their carers, has been developed on two platforms at the back of the stand in place of the existing press and media area; and
  • Two bays of seating (700 seats) in the stand have been designated as a family area for women and young children.
