Coaching
Quality
coaching is essential if people are to be introduced to sport properly, have an enjoyable experience and are to
maximise their full potential.
Sport NI is responsible for establishing the
strategic direction for coaching in Northern Ireland. In doing so, Sport NI works closely with SportscoachUK and the National
Coaching and Training Centre in Limerick to ensure that coaching
development in Northern Ireland meets the needs of sports regardless of whether
they are organised on a UK or all Ireland basis.
Sport NI has recently endorsed a new UK Action Plan for Coaching and is now preparing an implementation plan which will feed into the new draft Strategy for Sport in Northern Ireland.
Sport NI aims to develop coaching through working in partnership with a range of organisations to:
- set out and implement a clear, comprehensive and inclusive model for the long-term development of participants and coaches in sport in Northern Ireland
- develop and implement coaching strategies at regional area and local level to meet sport specific and geographical needs
- recruit and train qualified coaches with the skills to coach inclusively at each phase of the player pathway
- develop the role of coaching within the education sector
- support coaches through the development and delivery of effective qualifications, education and continuous profession development system
- consider the feasibility and value of licensing and registering coaches in sport
- raise the profile and recognition of coaching and
- undertake research into aspect of coaching relevant to Northern Ireland.
