Sports Institute for Northern Ireland 

The Sports Institute for Northern Ireland is a partnership between Sport NI and the University of Ulster and is based on the Jordanstown campus of the University of Ulster.

The Institute aims to provide specialist services and key facilities for up to 110 able bodied and disabled international and national sportsmen and women to enable them to improve their competitive capacity within the world's sporting arena.

The core purpose of the Institute is:


"to create an environment that nurtures and leads elite athletes and coaches through the provision of facilities, services and expertise"


It promotes excellence and is one of 12 network centres throughout the United Kingdom. 


The Institute's vision is of athletes producing


'consistent winning performances'.

Its mission is


'ensuring improved athlete performance of world class support to high performance athletes and coaches'.

The Institute offers elite sports people and their coaches priority access to the following support services:

  • strength and conditioning
  • sports medicine
  • physiotherapy
  • sports science
  • performance lifestyle
  • high performance planning.
