Youth
Sport
Youth Sport aims to create an environment in which every child can take part in
sport irrespective of their economic circumstances, religion, gender, race or
ability. Youth Sport is also about helping young people improve in their chosen
sports.
Youth Sport caters for children
of all abilities at three levels:
(1) Neighbourhood level -
giving young people an introduction to sport at primary schools and community
settings.
(2) Local level - giving
young people opportunities to develop their sporting interests at schools and
clubs
(3) District level -
giving opportunities for those with talent to have that talent developed at
schools, clubs and leisure centres.
Youth Sport concentrates on
helping young people in the following sports:
| Athletics |
Hockey |
Netball |
| Badminton |
Hurling |
Soccer |
| Basketball |
Gaelic Football |
Rugby |
| Cricket |
Lifestyle Sport |
Tennis |
| Camogie |

- 120 School Sports
Co-ordinators
- 600 primary and post primary

In June 1999 the Centre
for Leisure Research based at Moray House in Edinburgh produced an evaluation of
the Youth Sport NI programme , the key findings of which are published in the
