Sport NI Chief Executive, Antoinette McKeown said: “The public outpouring of grief we witnessed today at the funeral of Damian Casey is testament of the impact he had on his sport, and his community.

“The tributes from across the island of Ireland since Damian’s tragic death, show just how loved and respected he was on and off the hurling field.

“Damian’s prowess and talent in his sport was renowned and only equalled by the high esteem in which he was held by those who had the privilege of knowing him.

“Damian’s death has been deeply felt in the GAA family. And as GAA supporters gather to support their respective counties today no doubt their thoughts and prayers will be with the heartbroken Casey family.

“Damian was a superb sportsperson but ultimately, he was a much-loved son, brother and friend who will be held forever in the hearts of those closest to him.”
