Sport Northern Ireland was among those recognised at recent 2018 Ulster University Impact Excellence Awards,being named a finalist in Faculty of Life and Health Sciences Impact Excellence Award for Research category.

The Awards recognise the positive impact the University staff, students and its partners are having on societies and economies through collaboration and research.

Dr Paul Donnelly, Policy, Planning and Research Manager at Sport NI, has worked closely with academic staff within the School of Sport at Ulster University in the areas of physical activity, and mental health promotion.

This has included previous and ongoing work on projects such as:

  • the Northern Ireland Sport and Physical Activity Survey (SAPAS)
  • development of the new Sport and Physical Activity Strategy for Northern Ireland
  • development of a Northern Ireland Mental Health and Wellbeing In and Through Sport Action Plan

The nomination for the Award was submitted by Dr Gavin Breslin and Professor Marie Murphy, who discuss their work with Sport NI and Dr Paul Donnelly in the video below.
