Sport NI and Ulster University have come together to support performance pathway coaches through the ‘Coaching Collective’.
The ‘Coaching Collective’ formed due to a need from the sporting sector to support coaches who don’t have access or only have limited development and learning opportunities. Each meeting will provide these learning and discussion opportunities for coaches operating across local pathway and performance environments.
The first meeting of the Collective recently took place with 12 different sports attending to network, collaborate and encourage one another in their roles to enhance performance sport in Northern Ireland.
The main theme for the evening was ‘Environment’, led by Head of High Performance Coaching at Sport Ireland, Stephen Maguire. His session discussed how environment and culture shapes success with added discussion on leadership, communication, and decision-making.
The next Coaching Collective event will take place on Wednesday 4 February 2026 at Ulster University with Dr LeeAnn Sharp, Lecturer in Sport & Exercise Psychology, leading a session on ‘Supporting the Modern Athlete’.
