Mid Ulster District Council has hosted a range of activities to promote sport and physical activity participation throughout the Borough through Sport NI’s Community Planning Investment programme.
The council received over £37,000 thanks to funding from the Department for Communities to run activities including swim sessions, exercise classes, circuits, mountain biking, first aid courses and free soft play.
One initiative, Winter Forest Walks, took place across six outdoor spaces in the local area providing people of all ages and abilities with the opportunity to get out into nature and enjoy a walk.
One such group, at Brantry Wood, takes place every Saturday from 1-2pm providing a chance to get out and exercise at the weekend and the opportunity to connect with old and new friends.
Declan Steele, Sport NI Sports Developer said: “The Community Planning Investment provides councils with the opportunity to reach their local communities with sports participation projects.
“Mid Ulster District Council has put on a programme for everyone to try out new activities or provide better access to sport. We hope everyone who has participated continues to enjoy the lifelong benefits to sport after the programme has finished.”
Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Eugene McConnell, added: “As Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Sport NI for their generous funding of £37,000 to help increase sport and physical activity participation in our district.
“This investment will make a real difference in encouraging participation, improving well-being, and supporting local clubs and initiatives. Sport is at the heart of our community, and this funding will help create more opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to stay active and engaged.”
