Glasgow 2026 has announced the ten sports that will make up the schedule for the next Commonwealth Games.
The games, which will take place between 23 July and 2 August 2026, will include athletics (track and field only), swimming, artistic gymnastic, track cycling, netball, weightlifting, boxing, judo, bowls & 3×3 basketball.
Six sports will form the Para schedule with Athletics, Swimming, Track cycling, Para powerlifting, Para bowls and 3×3 wheelchair basketball.
Sport NI Interim CEO Richard Archibald said:“We are delighted that Glasgow 2026 has been able to facilitate a programme of sports to ensure that the Commonwealth Games takes place.
“Building on the success of the 2022 Games in Birmingham and this summer’s Olympic and Paralympic Games, Glasgow 2026 is a great opportunity for Northern Ireland athletes to compete at an elite level and showcase the talent we have across the ten sports selected.
“Some sports will be disappointed not to be included, and we hope the 2030 Commonwealth Games sees the return of a larger programme so that more of our talented athletes can compete and excel on the world stage.”
The 2022 Commonwealth Games were the most successful for Northern Ireland coming home from Birmingham with 18 medals of which seven were gold, seven silver and four bronze.
Recently we celebrated the success of the historic performances by athletes from Northern Ireland at the 2024 Olympics & Paralympics representing Team Ireland, Team GB, Paralympics Ireland or ParalympicsGB who came home from Paris with four gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
