Be Seen, Be Heard, Belong: Conor Hamilton on how men can champion women in sport
In the sporting world, visibility and representation matter more than ever. Conor Hamilton, Digital Communications Officer for Ulster Camogie is using his voice and digital expertise to champion women in sport and amplify the importance of supporting women and girls to be seen, be heard and belong in sport.
With over two years of experience working in the women and girls’ sports sector, Conor is passionate about creating impact through media, education, and everyday conversations.
The Power of Digital Media
Conor believes that digital platforms, especially social media, video, and imagery, are game-changers for increasing exposure. “They can make a real impact,” he says, “in growing women’s sport and giving it the recognition it deserves.” His work behind the scenes at Ulster Camogie has allowed him to see the dedication of athletes and the volunteers and supporters who make the sport happen.
Educating Men: A Key to Progress
One of the most powerful takeaways from Conor’s perspective is the role men can play—not necessarily on the pitch, but in the culture surrounding it. “Education is a huge factor,” he explains. “Men need to understand the differences they can make, even in small ways.” Whether it’s attending training workshops or simply engaging in conversations, the effect of awareness can be transformative.
Speak Out, Show Up
Supporting women in sport doesn’t require grand gestures. Conor emphasises that even casual conversations can inspire change. “You don’t have to be directly involved,” he says. “Just talking about it, encouraging others to watch, and acknowledging the high level these athletes play at—that’s powerful.”
Behind the Scenes, Beyond the Pitch
From video content to training sessions, Conor sees firsthand the effort that goes into every training and match. Conor talks about how the level of dedication and commitment that it takes for girls to participate in sport is commendable, and how male allies can help change negative behaviours to women playing sport.
Be Seen, Be Heard, Belong
Be Seen, Be Heard, Belong—is more than a slogan. It’s a call to action for everyone, especially men, to step up and support women’s sport. Whether you’re a coach, a fan, a father, or a friend, your voice matters.
The Be Seen, Be Heard, Belong campaign focuses on levelling the playing field and ensuring women and girls have the same opportunities as men and boys to take part in sport and physical activity.
