Sport is for everyone, regardless of age or ability, and Netball Northern Ireland’s Walking Netball is a prime example.
For Positive Ageing Month, Netball NI and Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council worked together to setup a new Walking Netball group at Banbridge Leisure Centre as part of the Council’s programme of events for October.
The sessions have seen over 20 women come together on a weekly basis to enjoy exercises, training drills and a ten minute match to gain the physical and mental benefits of participating in sport.
The sessions were due to finish after Positive Ageing Month but because of its popularity, the group will continue to meet showcasing the bond that has been formed through sport in a short space of time.
Walking Netball also takes place across the week, across Northern Ireland, at the following locations:
Monday: Larne Leisure Centre (10-11am) & Antrim Forum (10:30-11:30am)
Tuesday: Valley Leisure Centre (9:30-10:30am) & Roe Valley Leisure Centre
Wednesday: The Jethro Centre, Lurgan (12:30-1:30pm)
Thursday: Carrickfergus Amphitheatre (10:30-11:30am)
Friday: Bangor Aurora (10-11am) & Banbridge Leisure Centre (12:30-1:30pm)
Hear from participants, including Linda who suffered a TIA three years ago, on what sport & Walking Netball has given them.
