Saturday 1 August

It’s a Super Saturday for TeamNI with FIVE medals! Two Bronze, Two Silver and a Gold in Boxing and Judo.

It was a second Gold medal for TeamNI at the Games as Boxer Jon McConnell claimed victory in the Men’s 70kg Final. Michaela Walsh and Kaci Rock couldn’t go one better than their silver medals after defeat in the finals but both can be proud of their performances in Glasgow.

Two more medals were added on Saturday afternoon with bronze for Judo duo Rachael Hawkes and Joshua Green! Rachael claimed a bronze in the Women’s 70kg and Joshua in the 73kg category. That completed the five medals which leaves TeamNI sitting on 14 medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

But, that medal tally will increase on Sunday as Bowls Men’s Pair Gary Kelly and Adam McKeown will compete in the Gold medal match against England. They came through a nervous semi final to win on a tie break to compete for Gold.

On the track, firstly in Athletics, Nick Griggs finished well in the 5000m final to claim 6th place, just one second off a place in the podium with Callum Morgan finishing 15th.

And secondly in Cycling, three Team NI cyclists participated in the Women’s 25km Points Race Final with Emma Jeffers 18th, Erin Creighton 19th and Esther Wong 21st. In the Men’s 10km Scratch Race, Matti Dobbins was unable to finish.

Friday 31 July

Three TeamNI boxers will be fighting for Gold on Saturday after a successful day in the ring. Michaela Walsh, Jon McConnell and Kaci Rock will all be back in their finals looking to leave Glasgow with the top prize.

It was the end for Garyn McAllister, Willie John McCarten and Jude Gallagher as they finished with bronze medals. Sadly for Willie John he was unable to take to the ring after suffering an injury and we wish him a speedy recovery.

On the first day of the Track Cycling, Esther Wong finished 11th in the Women’s 4000m individual pursuit and 19th in the 10km Scratch Race Final with fellow TeamNI riders Erin Creighton and Emma Jeffers finishing 10th and 11th.

Chris Burns also made his Glasgow debut in the C1-3 1000m Time Trial coming 5th and Matti Dobbins came 20th in the Elimination Race Final.

Bowls continued with Shauna O’Neill losing her first singles match meaning she will not be able to play in the medal matches but ended her Games with a tiebreak victory in what has been a memorable performance in Glasgow across pairs and singles.

The Men’s Pairs of Gary Kelly and Adam McKeown are looking strong for a place in the semi finals after a last gasp win against Australia. Losing 5-1 going into the last end, they pulled a four out of the bag to claim half point from the set to leave victorious by 1.5 to 0.5.

TeamNI Netball finished on a high with a convincing victory over Trinidad and Tobago to finish in 11th place and sadly Eve Walsh Dann in the T38 Long Jump didn’t register a jump to be given a placing.

Monday 27 JulyDSC_3895

It’s been a full on day for Team NI across Boxing, Bowls, Gymnastics, Swimming and Weightlifting.

Olympic Champion Rhys McClenaghan was in action in the Pommel Horse final but couldn’t claim a spot on the podium as he finished 6th in a top quality final.

18 year old weightlifter Harrison McGrogan had to compete with a hand injury in the Men’s 71kg final but performed admirably to finish 5th on his Commonwealth Games debut.

It was drama in the bowls as Women’s Pair Shauna O’Neill and Chloe Wilson suffered their first defeat at the games to Australia. Australia to take the semi final spot from TeamNI had to win by ten but won by nine to miss out on a spot in the final four by one point. TeamNI will now compete in the semi finals on Monday evening.

In the boxing ring, Caitlin Fryers claimed a 5-0 win in the Women’s 51kg to qualify for the quarter finals but it was defeat for Eoghan Quinn in the Men’s 80kg Round of 16. Eoghan fought valiantly with some big shots but it wasn’t enough to move on to the next round.

Swimming action continued as Danielle Hill swam the second fastest time in the Women’s 50m Backstroke to make the semi finals but Lottie Cullen missed out on a spot in the top 16. Jack McMillan followed Danielle into the semi finals in the Men’s 100m Freestyle but Matthew Hamilton fell short. Paddy Johnston was first reserve in the heats of the Men’s 200m Butterfly so won’t be competing in the semi finals.

The Athletics also got underway with Eve Walsh Dann competing in the T38 100m heats. She ran a seasons best but it wasn’t enough to advance to the next round. She’ll next be in action in the Long Jump.

Medal number two for TeamNI! Barry McClements won silver in the Men’s S9 100m Backstroke jumping two places from the morning heat to take 2nd place. McClements won the first ever TeamNI medal in 2022 with bronze and has now gone one better in Glasgow.

Grace Davison and Emily Hughes competed in the 100m Freestyle Heats and it was Davison who booked her spot in the semi final but couldn’t reach the finals as she finished fifth just outside the top eight.

Adam Bradley also reached the semi finals in the Men’s 50m Breaststroke and like Davison narrowly missed out on a spot in the final. Alana Burns Atkin was the last swimmer to compete in the Women’s 100m Butterfly semis but had a similar fate to Davison and Bradley.

In Bowls, the dynamic duo of Chloe Wilson and Shauna O’Neill kept up their 100% start to the Women’s Pairs competition with a straight sets win over Guernsey and Zambia. Gary Kelly also maintained his perfect start with both Singles and Pairs competition reaching the semi finals and finals on Monday evening.

In Boxing, Nicole Clyde claimed a 5-0 victory in her Round of 16 bout in the Women’s 54kg to reach the last eight which takes place on Tuesday evening at 6pm. It wasn’t to be though for Jon Paul Hale who was beaten in his Round of 16 Men’s 65kg encounter.

Grace Davison secured 2nd place in her Women’s 100m Backstroke heat, alongside Danielle Hill who finished 3rd and Lottie Cullan 4th in their heat.  All three booked a place in tonight’s semi finals with Cullen advancing to the final with Davison and Hill both claiming reserve spots.
