The Safeguarding Sport Strategic Group (SSSG) Plan was established to create a multi-agency approach to lead the way in ensuring that children, young people and adults can enjoy sport and achieve their potential free from all forms of abuse and exploitation.
Richard Archibald, Interim CEO of Sport NI, stated “Sport plays an invaluable role in the lives of children, young people and adults. It encourages community involvement and instils a lifelong appreciation for the intrinsic value of sport. We have a clear responsibility to ensure that everyone enjoys sport and reaches their full potential in a safe environment. Sport NI is delighted to welcome and support the launch of the Safeguarding Sport Strategic Group (SSSG) Plan. This multi-agency collaborative guide demonstrates the power of partnership in safeguarding our children, young people and adults. Together, we can maximise the power of sport to change lives”
Marcella Leonard MBE, Chair Northern Ireland Safeguarding in Sport Strategic Group said: “As Chair of the Northern Ireland Safeguarding in Sport Strategic Group I am delighted to have our strategic plan launched. As a collective of sport, statutory and voluntary bodies and professionals we are committed to ensuring sport is safe for all, regardless of age, gender, ability, disability, race and your role. Engagement in sport from grassroots to elite representation brings individuals and society as a whole, incredible benefits but for everyone to achieve these benefits, we must collectively strive for sport being safe for all. Our strategic plan highlights the fact that safe sport can only be achieved through effective multiagency working between statutory, sport and voluntary organisations, quality collaboration within and between statutory departments as well as a real partnership approach to addressing any form of interpersonal abuse and violence within sport.
