Christine Duncan

Christine is an Every Body Active coach and Physical Activity Leader for People with a Disability in Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council. Having previously been involved in the Active Communities programme she felt that EBA2020 was a great way to continue promoting sport and physical activity.

Christine was involved in this year’s colour run in Wallace Park – Lisburn and was delighted to see the event grow to be “even bigger and better” than last year. Attracting over 200 participants who enjoyed a fun day out it encouraged care workers, family members and support workers to get involved.

The aim of Colour run is to get more people engaged in physical activity and make use of council resources, this ultimately will help reach the goal of EBA2020 of getting people more active, more often. Sport Northern Ireland through EBA2020 have invested £108,238 of lottery funding to Lisburn City and Castlereagh Council.

What made you want to become an EBA2020 coach?

I was a member of the Active Communities Programme for 4 years and Every Body Active 2020 was a great follow on programme to this and enabled me to work and engage with a large number of people and deliver some new sports and activities such as Glow Fitness, Ultimate Frisbee and much more.

Couch to 5k, Disability Colour Run Event, Paralympic Club, Base Camp, Special Schools Dance Programme, Walking groups, Boccia Leagues and cycling sessions.

Any highlights from working on EBA2020?

Probably delivering the first Disability Colour Run event last year which saw 150 people take part and also seeing people try new sports and activities and then joining local clubs.

What advice would you have for anyone wanting to get #BetterFitter?

To give it a go! It might be a bit scary to try a new activity or sport but there’s something out there for everyone. Sport and physical activity can help make you feel good!
